Kabul: US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, who was in Kabul, has said that Washington does not want to open a new battle field in the region after launching a unilateral operation in Pakistan.
She said that ties with Pakistan have always remained tough, but America respects Pakistan’s sovereignty.
Clinton said that Washington and Pakistan worked a lot in war against terror. She also said that Pakistan gave a lot of sacrifices in the terror war but these efforts are not enough to curb terrorism. Pakistan has to do more against terrorism, she added.
She acknowledged that US conducted a unilateral operation in Pakistan’s garrison city of Abottabad that led to the death of former al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
The US Secretary of State said they would continue work for the larger interest of the United States.
She is due to visit Pakistan on Thursday. During the visit she will held meetings with military and political leadership of Pakistan.
Her visit to Islamabad is being considered very important owing to escalating anti-America sentiment in Pakistan. She will also convey the messae of President Barack Obama to Pakistan’s top military and political leadership.
