BJP Ally and Indian Politician Accused of Assaulting 400 Women Flees to Germany

New Delhi: An Indian politician from the Janata Dal party, an ally of BJP, has been accused of sexually assaulting 400 women and filming the acts, and has fled to Germany after the videos of the assault got leaked.

According to international media reports, Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former Indian Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, and a member of the Janata Dal party, which is an ally of the Indian Prime Minister Modi’s BJP in the state of Karnataka has fled to Germany after 2,900 video clips of Prajwal allegedly assaulting approximately 400 women were distributed just days before the voting in Hassan on April 26.

According to reports, a girl working in Prajwal’s household filed a complaint of assault with the police, accusing both Prajwal and his father of sexual abuse, following which several victims have filed charges of sexual assault, prompting the JD-S to suspend Prajwal. The Karnataka government has also initiated a Special Investigation Team to delve deeper into the allegations. Rumors suggest that Prajwal has fled the country to Germany following the revelations. The scandal unfolded rapidly after pen drives containing video clips of Prajwal assaulting women became public.

Political ramifications are significant, with the BJP and JD-S facing widespread criticism for their association with Prajwal. The Congress party has been particularly vocal, with leader Rahul Gandhi demanding an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who actively campaigned for Prajwal. Gandhi accused Modi of supporting a “mass rapist,” highlighting the BJP’s willingness to overlook serious allegations for political gains.

This is not the first instance of the BJP being linked to controversial figures. The party has previously been criticized for its associations with other alleged criminals and for decisions perceived as undermining women’s safety. This includes the early release of convicts in the Bilkis Bano rape case and ongoing support for Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh amid allegations of sexual harassment.
