London: Unofficial reports, which revealed that the United Kingdom’s Prince Harry has killed a Taliban commander in an air raid, has raised security concerns for the prince.
Earlier in September, the Taliban launched a major attack on Camp Bastion, where Harry is based, killing two US marines. The insurgents later claimed the base was targeted because Harry was there.
“We are using all our strength to get rid of him, either by killing or kidnapping. We have informed our commanders in Helmand to do whatever they can to eliminate him,” Taliban said in a statement at the time.
Tory MP and former Army Colonel Patrick Mercer said the latest reports could only make Harry an even more susceptible target.
Sources of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) also expressed concern over the media heating up the debate over Harry’s killing of the Taliban commander.
A Western intelligence source also said: “There is no doubt that chatter between jihadists in Afghanistan will increase in relation to intensifying attempts to harm the prince. The trouble is any increased threat against a member of UK forces directly threatens all those on the front line.”
Opposition groups on social networks have already branded the Prince a “murderer”.
