“We Know Who is Behind the Attack on Raoof Hasan,” Imran Khan Warns of Protests

Rawalpindi: Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has warned that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will take to the streets in protest against the attack on PTI leader Raoof Hasan, signaling that the party’s patience is wearing thin.

Speaking from Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, where he is currently incarcerated, Khan said, “We know who is behind the attack on Raoof Hasan”. He also claimed that the incident proves everything in the country is being controlled through run-through force and that PTI is not even being allowed to hold rallies. He urged the party to prepare for street protests, adding, “Our patience is running out, and we will protest in the streets.”

Hasan was attacked on Wednesday morning by a group of transgender individuals armed with a blade outside a private news channel building in Islamabad. The PTI condemned the attack and called for a judicial commission to investigate.

Khan emphasized that the PTI has refrained from protesting due to the country’s economic situation but warned that any further damage would be the government’s responsibility. He criticized the government, stating that his party would not let the assembly and budget session proceed.

Khan warned that the country’s economy could not withstand the strain of protests, and any resulting damage would be the responsibility of those in power. Without naming Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz directly, he criticized her for allegedly passing a defamation law to control the media, based on Forms 47.

He criticized Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, stating that Shehbaz Sharif is saying that difficult decisions have to be made. Difficult decisions are made when the leader starts making sacrifices themselves.

Khan also called on Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif, and Asif Ali Zardari to return the billions of rupees allegedly stashed abroad.

Responding to a recent statement by PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif, Imran Khan dismissed claims that his conscience could be bought with just one road. Nawaz had alleged that after the 2013 elections, Imran requested a road to be paved to his residence, which was immediately granted, but later conspired against Nawaz’s government.

Khan rebutted by saying the road to Bani Gala was constructed by selling gifts from the Toshakhana. He also demanded that all cases filed against him be livestreamed so the public could see who had stolen public money.

Using a cricket analogy, Khan referred to his upcoming Supreme Court appearance on May 30 concerning amendments to the law governing the country’s top graft buster as a “match.” The hearing will be conducted by a five-member bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa.

Khan reiterated his commitment to transparency and accountability, emphasizing that he was convicted in three cases days before the February 8 general elections, yet people still came out to vote for PTI-backed candidates.
