Australia’s PM Denounces Pro-Palestine Graffiti at US Consulate

Sydney: Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has strongly denounced the vandalization of the US consulate in Sydney, where windows were smashed and pro-Palestinian graffiti was sprayed in the early hours of Monday.

Albanese emphasized that such actions do not align with Australian values and urged demonstrators to “turn the heat down,” stating that vandalism is not a constructive way to express grievances. He labeled the attack as a criminal act that undermines the cause it purports to support.

New South Wales Premier Chris Minns also echoed similar sentiments, labeling the incident at the US consulate as “reprehensible” and emphasizing the need for respectful and lawful expressions of dissent.

According to police reports, security cameras captured a hooded individual damaging the consulate’s windows around 3 am. The consulate’s coat of arms was also defaced with red inverted triangles, symbols often associated with Palestinian resistance movements.

This incident has sparked criticism directed at Albanese and other Western leaders for their perceived silence on the ongoing genocide in Gaza, contrasting with Albanese’s swift condemnation of the graffiti incident as a criminal act.

Recently a team of Australian lawyers formally referred Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to the International Criminal Court (ICC), accusing him of being an “accessory to genocide” in the Gaza Strip

As of now, the death toll in Gaza has reached a staggering 37,124, with 84,712 injuries reported from Israeli attacks since October 7, fueled by U.S. military support to Israel. Critics have highlighted the hypocrisy in Albanese’s focus on minor acts of protest, such as graffiti, while seemingly downplaying or ignoring the mass casualties resulting from Israeli actions in Gaza.

Australia maintains a close alliance but only in April, Albanese publicly condemned Israel’s justification for an airstrike that killed Australian woman Zomi Frankcom and six aid workers in central Gaza. Other than that he has been rather supportive of the Israeli war and remained silent when Israel continues to commit massacres in Gaza daily.
