ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry said that according Islamic teachings. He emphasized protection to be given to the prisoners and provided with all the facilities needed by them.
In a seminar regarding ‘Deteriorating Condition of Prisoners in Pakistan’, CJ stated that ‘every person enjoys basic rights in Islamic society’. He said that Islam emphasizes and ensures that every citizen gets his/her due rights including the prisoners.
He said that the prisoners must also be treated as humans in jail premises. However, those who are sentenced to death have low rights as compared to others but they must also be treated equally.
CJ said that Islam has clear view point regarding treatment with the prisoners and emphasizes no violence policy on them. He emphasized that the criminals must be given a chance to become better citizens of the society.
Iftikhar Chaudhry also reminded November 3rd was important step for the restoration of judiciary in Pakistan.
