Rawalpindi: In a heartfelt conversation with Iranian general, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir expressed deep condolences over the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian, and other senior officials.

During a telephonic conversation with Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, COAS Gen. Munir conveyed prayers for the departed souls and offered heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. He emphasized the strong historic, cultural, and brotherly ties between Pakistan and Iran, noting the enduring cooperation between their armed forces.

The COAS described the late Iranian leaders as “true friends of Pakistan,” highlighting their exceptional leadership qualities, according to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Sunday.

In response, General Bagheri thanked COAS Gen. Munir for the expression of sympathy and reaffirmed the commitment to strengthening cooperation between the militaries of both nations.

The tragic incident occurred on May 19 when the helicopter carrying the Iranian president, foreign minister, and other officials crashed in Iran’s mountainous northwest. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also paid a day-long visit to Iran to offer condolences to the country’s leadership on the loss of the top officials.

President Raisi, 63, was laid to rest in his hometown of Mashhad following the unfortunate accident.
