Israel Cannot Exist Without the Existence of Palestinian State: Saudi FM

Brussels: Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, underscored the indispensable nature of a Palestinian state for Israel’s existence, stating that Israel’s security is inherently linked to the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Addressing reporters in Brussels, Belgium, after attending a meeting of the Ministerial Committee assigned by the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit on Developments in the Gaza Strip, Prince Faisal emphasized the urgent need to end the Gaza conflict and move towards implementing a two-state solution.

It is absolutely necessary that Israel accepts that it cannot exist without the existence of a Palestinian state,” he asserted. “That its security is served by building a Palestinian state. So we hope sincerely that the leaders of Israel will realise that it is in their interest to work with the international community, not just to strengthen the Palestinian Authority but to establish a Palestinian state along the 1967 borders.” he added.

Highlighting the dire humanitarian situation exacerbated by Israeli airstrikes, Prince Faisal called for an immediate ceasefire and the release of hostages. He stressed that the viability of the two-state solution, enshrined in international law and UN principles, was being undermined daily.

Prince Faisal commended the international community, including the three European states’, Ireland, Norway and Spain’s decision to recognize Palestine as a state.

The Saudi Foreign Minister’s remarks come amid escalating tensions in the region, with Israeli airstrikes claiming the lives of over 160 Palestinians, including those seeking refuge in designated areas. Prince Faisal urged Israel to cooperate with the international community to establish lasting peace and security for both Palestinians and Israelis.

Israeli Attacks on Rafah:

Israeli airstrikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 160 Palestinians over the past 24 hours, including many who were burnt alive in a bombing raid on shelters housing displaced people. The assault targeted a centre run by the UN agency for Palestinian refugees near Rafah, in what has been described as a “horrific massacre.”

The attack on the Tal as-Sultan camp followed strikes on other shelters, compounding the devastation in the southern Gaza Strip. According to Palestinian officials, the strikes on Tal as-Sultan, Jabalia, Nuseirat, and Gaza City resulted in significant civilian casualties, with many of the victims being women and children.

Reports highlighted that approximately 45 Palestinians were killed in the tent camp at Rafah, designated as a safe zone. The camp was housing numerous displaced families seeking refuge from the ongoing conflict.

Since the escalation of hostilities on October 7, the death toll in Gaza has soared, with at least 36,050 Palestinians martyred and up to 81,026 wounded in Israeli attacks. The continued bombings have exacerbated the humanitarian crisis, with shelters and safe zones increasingly becoming targets in the conflict.

Israel has persisted in bombing Rafah despite a ruling from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Friday, which ordered Israel to cease its military operation in Rafah where thousands of Palestinians are seeking shelter.
