Met Office Warns of Intense Heatwave Across Sindh and Punjab, Temperatures Soar Above 50°C

Karachi: Pakistan’s Met Office has issued a warning for another intense heatwave week as parts of Sindh and Punjab endure an intense heatwave. Mohenjo Daro and Larkana have recorded the highest temperatures in the country, with the mercury reaching as high as 50°C.

Jacobabad is not far behind, with temperatures hitting 52°C. The Met Office predicts these extreme conditions will persist for another five to six days.

Karachi is also bracing for a sweltering week ahead, with temperature recorded at 36°C and 50% level of humidity. The temperature in the city is expected to surpass 40°C. Experts predict that the change in the wind direction on May 29 and May 30 would push temperatures higher in Karachi, though a slight drop is anticipated in upper and central Sindh after May 27.

In South Punjab, Khanpur in the Rahim Yar Khan district recorded a maximum temperature of 50.2°C. Other cities in Punjab also experienced extreme heat, with Bahawalpur at 48°C, Sargodha at 46°C, and Lahore at 43°C. These conditions are expected to continue throughout the week.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also affected, with most districts experiencing dry and hot weather. Dera Ismail Khan recorded the highest temperature at 44°C, while Bannu reached 43°C.

Citizens are advised to take precautions to stay cool and hydrated, especially during the hottest parts of the day from 11 am to 3 pm. The heatwave is expected to persist in the coming days, making it essential to implement necessary measures to protect against the extreme temperatures.
