Quetta: Balochistan Governor Zulfikar Ali Magsi has issued an ordinance which declares primary and secondary education free and compulsory.
According to a press release, the ordinance will be implemented with immediate effect.
The ordinance has come after the Supreme Court’s directive to implement Article 25-A of the Constitution which says free and compulsory education up to matriculation to children is the responsibility of the state.
The article was added in the Constitution through the 18th amendment.
The court had issued the directive while hearing a petition regarding worsen condition of schools.
