Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has said that it has not withdrawn from the fake degrees’ issue, adding that it is determined to implement the judgment of Supreme Court in letter and spirit.
In an official statement issued here on Friday‚ ECP said the process of verification of degrees would be completed so as to achieve the objective of Article 62 and 63 of the constitution.
It is to be mentioned here that the ECP had written letters to as many as 249 parliamentarians, asking them to submit verified degrees within 15 days. Otherwise, it warned lawmakers, their degrees would be deemed fake and criminal proceedings would initiated against them.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and other parties criticised the ECP initiative and directed them to work within their domain.
