Karachi: Pakistan’s snooker player Muhammad Asif on Tuesday arrived Karachi after winning the IBSF World Snooker Championship title in Bulgaria.
Asif defeated Britain’s Gary Wilson by 10-8 to clinch the title of World Snooker Championship.
He beat Alex Borg of Malta in the semi-finals on Saturday to become the third Pakistani to play IBSF World Snooker Championship final after Mohammad Yousaf (in 1994) and Saleh Muhammad (in 2003).
The star player was warmly welcomed by relatives, fans and Snooker Association officials at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi.
Talking to media at the airport, the star snooker player credited his parents’ prays for the unbelievable win.
“There was no one to guide me during the tournament, but I hold my nerves to achieve this victory,” he said adding that he would continue to achieve victories for the country.
“I wanted to thank Snooker Association, which arranged an amount for sending the boys to the championship,” he said adding that the government should provide facilities to the snooker players.
“I will request Prime Minister to provide jobs to the snooker players,” he added.
