Karachi: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain Monday described ‘the trend of institutions functioning outside the constitutional parameters’ as dangerous and stressed upon all the state organs to work within their limits.
Addressing the party workers after the visit of Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and federal ministers to Nine Zero, the party chief said “The army, judiciary and parliament should work within their jurisdiction.
Hussain said that President Asif Ali Zardari had experienced a tough time during his four and a half years in office and anyone else in his place would have lost hope.
“By accepting Yousuf Raza Gilani’s disqualification, the president had avoided confrontation.”
MQM Chief Altaf Hussain stressed that democratic system in the country should continue and not be derailed.
He spoke of challenges and problems facing the country and underlined need for unity at this juncture. He asked the prime minister to take bold decisions in the larger national interest so that he was remembered by the masses.
He also asked Raja Ashraf to end excesses in Balochistan province and initiate process of dialogue in order to resolve serious outstanding issues.
He told the PM that MQM “is a dear friend of PPP” and welcomed Raja Ashraf to MQM Headquarters. He urged the opposition parties to wait for upcoming general elections.
Altaf Hussain lauded President Asif Ali Zardari and Yusuf Raza Gilani for accepting the recent judgment of the Supreme Court under which Gilani (former Prime Minister) was disqualified as MNA in contempt of court case.
He also spoke of dual nationality of Pakistanis and felt that an amendment be made in the Constitution through a bill in the parliament to resolve this important issue. Pakistanis having dual nationality were backbone of national economy, he observed.
