Galle: Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene on Friday won the toss and elected to bat first against Pakistan in first test being played in Gale.
“Pretty good wicket, pretty dry as well, we will look to put the runs on the board,” Jayawardene said after winning the toss.
Pakistani skipper Mohammad Hafeez, leading the country in place of the banned Musbah-ul-Haq, said; “Great opportunity for me to represent my country at the highest level. We have done a great job in Tests. There should be something in this wicket for the pace bowlers early on.”
Pakistan coach and ex-Sri Lanka coach Dav Whatmore, when asked about the Galle wicket, answers in one word – Strange. He says the make-up of the Sri Lankan side post-Muralitharan has undergone a change, with more quicks coming in.
