Islamabad: The contempt of court case against Malik Riaz, former chairman of Bahria Town, commenced and continues in the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday.
A thr0ee-member bench led by justice Shakirullah was hearing the case.
Malik Riaz requested that the court should give him 10 days to appoint his counsel, and the court granted him the time to arrange a lawyer in a week.
However, the court made it clear that after seven days neither Riaz nor his counsel will be granted any more time.
The former president of the Islamabad High Court Bar Association Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf Gujjar requested the court to include Riaz’s name in Exit Control List (ECL). However the court did not include his name in the list as he complied with the court’s orders.
Moreover, Asfraf Gujjar gave reference of the press briefing conducted by Riaz during which he refused to adhere to the orders of the court. On which the bench asked Riaz to avoid any interaction with the media.
The hearing was adjourned till June 21.
