Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has issued show-cause notice and summoned real estate tycoon Malik Riaz on Thursday for ridiculing and scandalizing the apex court.
The notice was issued as a three-judge bench headed by Justice Shakirullah Jan began hearing into a suo motu notice taken by the Supreme Court over the press conference of Malik Riaz.
During the course of hearing Justice Shakirullah Jan remarked prima facie ridiculed the apex court and in a bid to scandalize the institution. Shakirullah Jan said prima facie committed contempt of court.
The court said Malik Riaz tried to undermine the authority of the Supreme Court.
It is to mention here that the court took suo motu notice today (Wednesday) over the pres conference of Malik Riaz, in which he levelled serious allegations against Chief Justice of Pakistan, accusing him of holding secret meetings with him (Riaz) and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.
