Tehran: Six people were arrested on the charges of assassinating a Sunni cleric Maulvi Jangi Zehi in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan, An Iranian judicial official said.
Zahedan Prosecutor General Mohammad Marzieh said on Sunday that the detainees had confessed killing Zehi earlier this year, press TV reported.
Two of the individuals recently arrested over the assassination of Zehi have confessed that they received the sum from Saudi Wahhabis, the report said on Friday.
Jangi Zehi, the Friday prayers Imam of Iran’s southeastern town of Rask, was assassinated by terrorists after saying prayers in the evening.
Over the past year, the late Iranian cleric had publicly expressed his belief that revealing the crimes of the Riyadh and Manama regimes is the religious duty of the Sunni scholars in Iran, the website said.
