Gilgit: : At least five people were killed and several others injured in fierce fighting between two sectarian groups Gilgit,on Tuesday.
According to police, 22 people fell injured as two groups locked horns.They said that a hand-grenade attack left four people wounded at Ittehad Chowk.
Police, Rangers and Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts were deployed in the area to overcome the situation but to no avail. The situation forced the authorities to impose curfew in the area for indefinite period.
Sources in the area told that exchange of fire continue despite the curfew.
It is to mention here that hundreds of people have lost their lives in the region due to sectarian rift between militant groups of Shiite and Sunni sects while authorities remained reluctant to find a permanent solution to provide relief to the people.
