Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has decided to soften his stance, directing his party leaders to initiate dialogues both inside and outside the Parliament to alleviate the ongoing political tension.
This strategic shift comes after Khan’s interaction with Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, during a Supreme Court hearing regarding amendments to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) law. During the hearing, CJP Isa suggested that Khan engage with the Parliament to help address Pakistan’s pressing issues, emphasizing the need for the country to move forward.
Following this advice, Khan, who appeared via video link from Adiala jail where he has been detained since August 2023, instructed PTI’s leadership to open communication channels with various political parties. The party’s lawmakers will enhance their relations with members of the ruling coalition government, while efforts will also be made to connect with political entities outside the Parliament.
Khan, who has been vocal about facing political victimization since his ouster from power in April 2022, has authorized a three-member PTI committee to establish contact with the establishment. Additionally, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur is engaged in behind-the-scenes negotiations with key stakeholders.
Sources revealed that PTI has decided to support state efforts for political and economic stability, aiming to de-escalate the prevailing tensions. The party plans to move forward by engaging in negotiations on various matters, including the formation of committees in both the Senate and National Assembly.
