London: Lawyer of former Pakistan cricket captain Salman Butt, Ali Bajwa has admitted that his client was involved in spot-fixing scandal but said that his sentence should be less than that of Mohammad Asif.
He said this while giving arguments during hearing on appeals against sentences in connection with the spot-fixing scandal with the lord chief justice presiding here on Wednesday.
He further said that the sentence really shocked Salman Butt and court must review its decision. He argued that a British politician had been awarded less punishment in the same kind of crime.
Bajwa said that Butt did not bowl a no-ball so why he was given the sentence severe than Asif.
During the hearing, Mohammad Amir’s lawyer Gerath Peirce said that his client had already admitted his involvement in the crime
He said that Amir had faced three weeks of punishment in the offenders detention centre and now he wants to complete his remaining term in Pakistan.
It is to be mentioned here that the Pakistan trio got punishment on November 3 by the crown court after proving guilty in the spot-fixing case.
