Washington: CIA Director Leon Panetta has said that Pakistan’s aid in war on terror is conditional to its efforts against militancy.
He said Pakistan has to take further effective measure to eliminate terrorism from the country. Pakistan’s support in war against terror is essential to put pressure on al Qaeda, he added.
Panetta said Pakistan’s high officials were unaware of Osama’s presence in Pakistan. He said the US would continue supporting Pakistan and Afghanistan in war against terror.
The CIA director would visit Pakistan on Thursday to hold talks with Pakistan’s political and defence leadership.
Leon Panetta’s visit to Pakistan is of the utmost importance especially after the US operation in Abbottabad on May 2, in which former la Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was assassinated.
Tension had surface between Pakistan and the US after the Abbottabad operation but relations to some extent have normalized.
Leon Panetta’s visit to Pakistan shows that the working relation with the US is moving forward.
