Tehran: Iran will put three Americans facing espionage charges on trial on Wednesday, the state IRIB TV website reported.
Iranian Judiciary spokesman Gholm-Hossein Mohseni- Ejei said, “If there is no problem, and no request from the lawyer of detainees (to postpone), the trial session will be held on time.”
In February, an Iranian court held a close-door trial of the three Americans, Josh Fattal, Sarah Shourd and Shane Bauer, who were arrested in Iran on July 31, 2009 for illegally entering Iran ‘s western border and were later charged with espionage. The US government considered the charges totally groundless.
The female US hiker Sarah Shourd, once jailed in Iran with the other two Americans, was released by Tehran’s prosecutor in September on bail of 500,000 US dollars due to her health situation.
