After the Ban on Al Jazeera, Israeli Police Raid Its Office and Seize Equipment

Occupied Jerusalem: Israeli police have raided the office of the Qatari broadcasting corporation Al Jazeera, located in occupied Jerusalem, and confiscated equipment and blocked the media outlet’s online access, following a ban on the broadcaster.

According to reports, the Israeli government ordered the shutdown of Al Jazeera’s operations within the country, following the Israeli government’s directives to halt Al Jazeera TV’s broadcasts, the station’s equipment was also seized, and the Al Jazeera website was blocked.

‘If you’re watching this… then Al Jazeera has been banned in Israel’, Al Jazeera’s correspondent Imran Khan revealed in his last pre-recorded report from occupied East Jerusalem in advance of the Netanyahu government’s unanimous decision to ban Al Jazeera in Israel.

Videos circulating on the internet show plainclothes Israeli-occupying police officers and the agents of the Israel Security Agency entering Al Jazeera’s office in Occupied Jerusalem and confiscating cameras and other broadcasting equipment.

It was reported yesterday that satellite and cable providers in Israel had suspended Al Jazeera’s broadcasts on the orders of the Israeli government. According to the Israeli satellite service, the broadcasts of Al Jazeera in Israel were stopped following a government decision.

Media reported that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s cabinet had unanimously decided to shut down Al Jazeera’s operations in Israel, and the Israeli parliament had already voted in favor of temporarily suspending the channel.

Israeli Minister of Communication Shlomo Karhi announced on his social media post that he had signed the order to shut down Al Jazeera channel, and that the order would take immediate effect.

Al Jazeera has strongly condemned the shutdown, calling it a “criminal act” aimed at stifling their comprehensive coverage of the conflict in Gaza. They emphasized their commitment to journalistic integrity, dismissing the allegations of bias and reaffirming their dedication to reporting “the truth.”

Israeli media reported that the government had instructed the Minister of Information to not only shut down the Al Jazeera channel in Israel but also to seal the channel’s office and confiscate computers, mobiles, and other equipment.

This closure occurs as international attention is increasingly focused on Israel’s anticipated military escalation in Gaza’s southern region, particularly in Rafah, where a humanitarian crisis unfolds with 1.5 million people at risk.

The network has called upon global media and human rights bodies to denounce Israel’s repeated assaults on press freedoms and its journalists, some of whom have faced violence or death in the line of duty since Israel launched its war against Gaza on October 7.
