Islamabad: Federal Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that the Abbottabad operation, in which al-Qaeda Chief Osama bin Laden was killed, launched by the US forces and Pakistan was not informed by the US regarding the operation.
In a policy statement in Senate, the upper house of the Parliament, on Wednesday she said that Pakistan has serious reservations over the US operation in its territory, adding that Pakistan’s security and sovereignty was a sacred duty and could not be compromised.
She said that Pakistan Army had rendered great sacrifices in battling terrorists and played a typical role in war against terror, adding that elimination of terrorism was the top most priority of the country.
The minister vowed that Pakistan would continue its cooperation against terrorism.
She said that the terrorists have been carrying out their activities in the name of Islam.Awan added that all schools of thought were united against terrorism.
She noted that Foreign Office’s statement on the operation against Osama bin Laden was the government’s statement.
Bin Ladin was killed by the US Special Forces’ predawn attack in the garrison town of Abbottabad on Sunday while the US had claimed that Pakistan was not informed about the operation as they feared sharing of information could lead to operation’s failure.
