Islamabad: Counter Terrorism Department of Sindh Police had arrested Dr. Aafia Siddiqui and reportedly handed her over to the Inter Services Intelligence ISI, which later handed her over to the United States.This was disclosed today in an audio tape received by International Justice Network’s lawyers, who were defending Dr. Aafia in the US court.
In the audio tape a man, who is said to be a Sindh police officer SP Imran Shaukat, who was heading CTD in 2003 when Aafia went missing, is admitting to have arrested Dr. Aafia and handed her over to ISI.
The four hours audio tape raised serious questions over not only the case of Dr. Aafia, but on War on terror and on the relations between Pakistan and the United States.
Identity of the source, who handed over the tape to IJN has not been disclosed yet. However, he is a Pakistani/ American national who handed over the proofs to IJN.
The new secret audio evidence has been taped in a homelike environment. Voices of children can be heard easily in the background.
The audio tape comprised on a frank conversation reveals that Imran Shaukat, they then head of the counter terrorism department for Sindh province, picked up Dr. Aafia Siddiqui was kidnapped and later handed over to the ISI.
Dr Aafia Siddiqui, an MIT graduate was disappeared in 2003 from Karachi, Pakistan along with her three children.
After 5 years, Yvonne Ridley, a famous British journalist had raised the issue of “Gray lady or Prisoner no 650”. Following her campaign international and Pakistani media started to highlight the issue. Following which the US claimed to arrest her from Afghanistan. In the tapes Imran Shaukat is admitting his involvement in abduction of Dr. Aafia.
Besides the issue of Dr. Aafia, the recording also exposes the role of secret agencies in regard with disappearance of people in Pakistan.
The source has claimed that he was introduced to Imran Shaukat by a mutual friend, and where they met.
