Islamabad: A fraud scheme to collect funds by an ex-army man, Shamsul Anwar, came to an end on Wednesday when DSP Cant Circle Sardar Shahbaz Khan, during a press conference, told media that Anwar fabricated the heart-rending story.
The Rawalpindi police, responding to a story of Pakistan’s largest media group owned English newspapers, The News, investigated the matter and registered a case against Shamsul Anwar, the father of a so-called unfortunate girl named Madina Anwar, who was reportedly ‘kidnapped for ransom’ by a terrorist outfit.
He said that Shamsul Anwar fabricated the story to make money off of public sympathies.
He said Anwar’s daughter had also been found from a neighbouring house and police had arrested him after registering a case of fraud (number 22/12) under Section 420, 499, 500 and 504 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
In another conversation with TheNewsTribe Station House Officer of Westridge Police Station Rawalpindi Ch.Jamil said “Shamsulanwar act is totally fabricated, based on the idea of the money making”.
He said the man had claimed that his daughter had been kidnapped but she was married and was living happily with her husband only a few yards from her parents’ house.
A writer at Pakistan English daily Tribune, Sherish commented, “I also did a story on him last year and supported him a lot. Every day he used to come to my office with a new story, and sometimes he used to come with his wife and children and I never sent him back empty hands..I also collected money to get food items for him….I never shared this with anyone but now this man made me to disclose all this…..as he instead of being thankful to me tried to defame me. He also approached me to do a story on his daughter but I refused. This person has really made me to stop helping needy people through writing.”
