Islamabad: Pakistan has officially rejected the 2023 Country Report on Human Rights Practices released by the US State Department, labeling it as biased, inaccurate, and disconnected from reality.
In a strong statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, the report was criticized for its methodology and lack of objectivity, suggesting that it uses a domestically skewed lens to assess human rights globally.
The foreign ministry’s statement highlighted the report’s failure to address severe human rights issues in regions like Gaza and Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, areas which are currently experiencing significant human rights crises. The ministry accused the report of being politically motivated, pointing out the apparent double standards and the politicization of human rights issues.
The statement further criticized the US for remaining silent on what it describes as the ongoing genocide in Gaza, where over 33,000 civilians have reportedly been killed. According to the ministry, this silence contradicts the purported goals of the US human rights reports and undermines the credibility of the international human rights discourse.
Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its own human rights frameworks and continuing to engage constructively on the international stage to promote human rights. The ministry urged the US State Department to exercise greater due diligence and impartiality in its assessments and to acknowledge and address human rights violations globally without bias.
The ministry called for the US to demonstrate “moral courage” by speaking truthfully about all human rights situations and to support international efforts aimed at ending atrocities in regions facing severe human rights challenges.
