Islamabad: A large number of people took to the streets in protest against the desecration and the burning of the Holy Quran by a US priest Terry Jones, here on Friday.
Protest rallies and demonstrations were held across the country after Friday prayers.
The protest demonstrations and rallies were organized by the leading religious parties including Jamat-e-Islami(JI), Jamiat Ulema-e- Islam(JUI), Jamiat Ulemai-e-Pakistan(JUP).
The main rally was taken out from Jamaia Masjid Binnori Town and culminated at the Karachi Press Club (KPC).
The protesters demanded of the parliament to pass a resolution against the criminal act of Terry Jones, besides demanding that an urgent meeting of Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) be convened to chalk out the policy against such incidents.
The infuriated people also burnt effigy and flag of US during the protests.
Pakistani government was condemned for releasing CIA contractor Raymond Davis.They demanded of the US government to publicly hang the pester who burnt the Holy Quran.
The protesters also demanded of the government to wage a Jihad against the Zionist forces and vowed to resist every anti-Islam action in the world.
A large number of the Christians also participated in the rallies and demanded immediate action against Jones.
Protest demonstrations were also held in all major cities of the country ,including Peshawar, Quetta, Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi and Sakkur
