Karachi: Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology’s (SSUET) students have developed a car which runs on solar energy without emitting any environmental pollution.
This modern car runs with a maximum speed of 45 kilometer per hour besides generating electricity for additional purposes.
Solar energy car is developed by a group of talented students including Feher Khan, Asad Saeed, Shafiq Ahmed, Habib Shoqut and Syeda Bibi with Farhan Saeed as the group leader.
If sun is not on the sky, how the car would get charged?
Replying to this question, Farhan Saeed says ‘an electricity charger has been installed inside the car so that if bad weather obstructs charging through solar energy it can be charged by 220 volts of electricity.’
“A digital speed meter has been installed in car besides a Direct Current (DC) motor” he said and further added “together with digital meter DC driver controls the speed of the car”.
He said that for security purpose his team had introduced ignition password and cars started only after entering the password.
Talking with Daily Naibaat, Farhan viewed the solar car as a cheap mean of traveling as it covered a distance of two kilometers in one rupee only even if it was charged through electricity.
“About 170 thousand rupees were spent on the development of this car and with state support we can produce this car on commercial scale.”
The solar car has won first prize in the university competition and has got second prize in last month’s competition at Expo center, Karachi, the port city of Pakistan.
