Hajj 2024: Death Toll Exceeds 1,000 Due to Heatwave

Riyadh: The number of deaths during Hajj due to extreme heat has exceeded 1,081 within two days.

According to Saudi authorities, more than half of the deceased were unregistered pilgrims who were not on Hajj visas but on tourist or visit visas.

Among the deceased, 658 were from Egypt, 200 from Indonesia, 100 from Jordan, 68 from India, 35 from Pakistan, 31 from Iran, and 3 from Senegal.

Saudi media reported that the temperature at the Grand Mosque in Mecca was recorded at 51.8 degrees Celsius on Monday.

Saudi officials also reported that 2,000 pilgrims are being treated in various hospitals due to severe heat-related illnesses.
