Four Pakistani Civilians Killed by Iranian Border Guards in Balochistan

Quetta: On Tuesday, at least four Pakistani civilians were killed and two others injured when Iranian border guards opened fire on their vehicle in the town of Mashkel in southwestern Balochistan province.

The incident took place when Iranian border guards opened fire on a vehicle carrying 6 Pakistani civilians in the Mashkel area. Assistant Commissioner of Mashkel, Sahibzada Asfand, confirmed the victims were civilians. The deceased have been identified as Shukarullah,  Asghar Ali, Abdul Wasi, and Dilawar. The injured include Mahan Gul and Akhtar.

The incident, which took place in the sensitive border area of Tehsil Mashkel Bacha Rai, resulted in immediate fatalities and injuries. Local authorities have heightened security following the attack, with the injured receiving medical treatment.

The motive behind the shooting and the circumstances leading up to the incident are currently under investigation. This event has increased tensions in the already volatile border region between Pakistan and Iran, highlighting the urgent need for effective management of border security issues.

Earlier in January, tensions between the two nations escalated after Iran claimed to have struck a militant hideout in Panjgur, Balochistan, prompting Islamabad to recall its ambassador from Tehran. In retaliation, Pakistani forces targeted terrorist hideouts in Saravan, Sistan-Baluchestan province. However, both countries agreed to return their ambassadors after diplomatic efforts.
