Lahore: The Emir (chief) of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, stated that the country cannot afford a confrontation between the public and the army or a division of institutions. The only solution to the current constitutional and public issues is for all state institutions to return to their constitutional positions while staying within their limits.
Speaking at a ‘Meet the Press’ event in Mansoora, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman stated that the government imposed through Form 47 cannot last long and urged the parties part of the government to step back and pull the country out of crisis through negotiations.
The leader of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan expressed readiness to engage in dialogue based on principles and supported electoral reforms, endorsing electronic voting machines to strengthen democracy and break free from the domination of electables, landlords, and feudal lords by moving towards proportional representation.
Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman emphasized that the Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project must be completed at all costs and called for the United States to cease meddling in Pakistan’s internal affairs. He demanded that the opposition parties part of the PDM alliance should apologize to the nation for overthrowing the previous government.
He stated that Form 45 is fundamental to determine the election results but the current government was forcefully imposed on the people. He declared that there would be no political or electoral alliances but that communication and cooperation would continue to uphold the supremacy of the Constitution and democratic freedoms.
