Sanaa: Yemen’s Houthi group has claimed a successful missile attack on an American commercial maritime vessel in the southern Red Sea.
According to media reports, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea stated that our naval forces targeted a U.S. commercial ship, the Star Iris bound for Israel, with multiple precise maritime missiles in the Red Sea. He said that our armed forces have decided to continue the implementation of measures to prevent all maritime vessels associated with Israel or bound for Israeli ports from approaching the Gaza Strip until the cessation of Israeli aggression on Gaza.
The spokesman further stated that in response to Zionist crimes in Gaza and the aggression of the United States and Britain against our country Yemen, our forces will not hesitate to launch further attacks.
The attack, reported by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Agency, occurred approximately 40 nautical miles south of Yemen’s al-Mukha port. Despite the assault, there were no reported casualties, and the vessel continued its voyage.
The Houthis have vowed to continue targeting ships linked to Israel until Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip ceases. This incident follows a pattern of Houthi attacks on commercial vessels since mid-November, initiated in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza who have been facing ruthless attacks by Israel since October 7, 2023, which has claimed the lives of 28,340 Palestinians, and left 67,984 injured, mostly women and children. Tragically, thousands of civilians remain missing, trapped under debris and in the streets, as Israeli occupation forces obstruct access for ambulance crews and civil defense teams attempting rescue efforts.
The Israeli offensive has resulted in 85% of Gaza’s population being internally displaced. Moreover, the UN highlights acute shortages of food, clean water, and medicine, with 60% of the enclave’s infrastructure damaged or destroyed.
