Karachi: Sui Southern Gas Company has enforced zero-tolerance against gas theft through raids in residential areas of Upper Sindh.
During the crackdown conducted by the distribution zone in Hyderabad’s Zafar Housing Society and Mehr Ali Society Phase 1, Kohsar, Latifabad, illegal connections involving direct theft were eliminated from 20 and 120 houses respectively.
Residents had illegally connected rubber pipes directly to Sui Southern’s feeder mains, which were welded shut during the operations.
In Zafar Housing Society and Mehr Ali Society, 19,200 and 115,200 cubic meters of gas were being stolen annually, respectively. Legal claims have been filed following the raids.
In the Larkana region, anti-gas theft teams identified residents involved in underground and overhead theft activities in Larkana and Shikarpur zones. The raid teams disconnected more than five connections and immediately removed rubber pipes.
The Gas Utility Court of Shikarpur district denied pre-arrest bail to the accused Suleman and issued non-bailable arrest warrants, instructing SHO PS Stuart Ganj Shikarpur to detain the accused and present him at the next hearing.
The accused had been named in an FIR registered at the Stuart Ganj police station in Shikarpur for operating a heavy generator directly using gas from the distribution gas line for commercial electricity production. The Security Services, Counter Gas Theft Operations (Prosecution Wing) of Larkana, followed the case in court.
