Washington: The United States has given approval for attacks on Iran-linked targets in Syria and Iraq.
According to a British news media agency, a senior American official disclosed that these attacks will be carried out in the coming days, and the decision will be made, taking into account the weather conditions, regarding when these operations will start.
American officials did not specify how long these attacks might continue, but it was indicated that the actions would be taken during bad weather conditions, with precautions in place to avoid civilian casualties.
This decision comes in the aftermath of an attack on an American base in Jordan a few days ago, resulting in the death of three American soldiers. Following these attacks, the U.S. had alleged that Iran-backed extremists had targeted the American base.
It is noteworthy that the Islamic Resistance Front in Iraq had previously targeted American bases, about which the U.S. claimed that it received support from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards in terms of weapons and funding.
In this attack on the named “Tower 22” American base, 41 soldiers were injured, and Iran categorically stated that it played no role in these attacks.
According to international news agencies, four American officials claimed that the drone used in the attacks was supplied by Iran.
During a press conference yesterday, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin stated that the U.S. will not tolerate attacks on its personnel. He emphasized that the U.S. will take all necessary actions to protect its interests and the interests of its people, and it will act where, when, and how it deems necessary.
It is important to note that following the attacks in Jordan, the American President is facing strong pressure from Republican lawmakers for strikes on Iranian territory.
