The Hague: The International Court of Justice (ICJ) will announce its highly anticipated interim ruling on Friday regarding South Africa’s genocide case against Israel.
According to sources, the ICJ panel of 17 judges will deliver an interim ruling in South Africa’s genocide case against Israel. However, the court’s decision will not be the final verdict against Israel in the case, but the ICJ, as the UN’s highest court, has the authority to issue interim ruling akin to an injunction.
South Africa is urging an immediate ceasefire as the primary provisional measure. If granted, nations and governments worldwide could respond by applying pressure on Israel to comply with the ICJ’s order
South Africa had filed a petition against Israel, seeking provisional measures against Israel’s violations of the Genocide Convention in Gaza. The ICJ’s decision is scheduled to be announced on January 26, Friday, at 5 PM according to Pakistani time.
In South Africa’s case, it was argued that Israel is violating the Genocide Convention in Gaza, and the court is urged to order Israel to cease its military operations in Gaza.
