Lahore: PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan announced on Tuesday that the party’s founder, Imran Khan, is set to be released from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi before the end of this month. The news was shared during a media briefing outside the jail premises.
Gohar expressed optimism about Imran Khan’s release, emphasizing its significance ahead of the upcoming Eid celebrations. He revealed that lengthy legal proceedings spanning 14 hours had taken place within the jail as part of efforts to secure Khan’s release.
The PTI leader denied any undisclosed negotiations influencing these developments, stating, they have not engaged in any backdoor contacts. “If there were any such contacts, we would have informed the public.”
Furthermore, Gohar highlighted ongoing discussions with Maulana Fazlur Rehman aimed at strengthening protest efforts and forming an alliance, though he specified that talks excluded MQM-P, PMLN, and PPP. He also mentioned that Sher Afzal Marwat is the chosen candidate for the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.
Addressing issues with the jail administration, Gohar complained about restrictions on legal access, noting that senior lawyer Intezar Panjutha was denied entry even on the day of the briefing. According to him, only five lawyers have been permitted to meet with Imran Khan so far.
