58% Surge in Umrah Pilgrims: 13.55 Million People Performed Umrah in 2023

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah announced that in the past year of 2023, 13.55 million fortunate individuals embarked on the sacred journey to the Holy Hijaz and performed Umrah.

According to official sources, Saudi authorities have revealed that there has been a 58% increase in the number of people performing Umrah in 2023 compared to 2022. Detailed figures indicate that during the year 2023, a total of 13.55 million people performed Umrah.

Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, the Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah, addressed the 3rd annual Hajj and Umrah Services Conference and Exhibition at the Jeddah Superdome. He stated that the previous year (2023) witnessed a record-breaking number of Umrah pilgrims. In 2019, the highest number of pilgrims from outside Saudi Arabia was recorded estimated at 8.55 million pilgrims, which was surpassed last year in 2023, setting a new record.

Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah further explained that the record-breaking increase in the number of Umrah pilgrims last year was made possible by the improved Umrah facilities, a clean and organized system, and the provision of better services. He expressed hope that each year would witness a continuous rise in the number of Umrah pilgrims from around the world. To ensure this, over $1.3 billion is being invested in developmental projects.

According to the Minister of Hajj and Umrah, these projects will significantly increase capacity and facilities for Umrah pilgrims, providing them with unprecedented convenience and comfort.
