Islamabad: Pakistan’s government expenditure has exceeded PKR 9,651 billion, while the deficit has reached PKR 4,337 billion.
According to a report, the Ministry of Finance released details indicating that the federal government’s fiscal deficit has reached PKR 4,337 billion in the first nine months of the current fiscal year.
The data shows that the government’s revenue is PKR 5,313 billion, whereas expenditures have surpassed PKR 9,651 billion. During the first nine months of the ongoing fiscal year, PKR 5,517 billion was spent on servicing the national debt.
The report further mentioned that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) collected PKR 6,711 billion in taxes during the first nine months of the fiscal year 2024-25. Additionally, PKR 3,815 billion was transferred to the provinces under the National Finance Commission (NFC). Non-tax revenue recorded from July 2023 to March 2024 amounted to PKR 2,416 billion.
The government collected PKR 719.59 billion from consumers under the petroleum levy, which is not only a record amount but also PKR 357 billion more than the same period last year.
According to the report, the government’s current expenditures have also exceeded PKR 9,201 billion, including PKR 1,222 billion on defense, PKR 454 billion on development projects, and over PKR 611 billion on pension payments. Subsidies accounted for PKR 473 billion. The cost of running civil government affairs over the nine months was PKR 518 billion.
