Beijing: Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin has called on the United States to cease its unilateral opposition to UN Security Council resolutions and take active steps to facilitate an immediate ceasefire between Palestine and Israel.
Wang made the statement during a routine press briefing, responding to remarks by U.S. Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns at the Brookings Institution on Dec. 15. Burns had suggested that the responsibility to end the conflict rests primarily on the U.S.
Wang Wenbin remarked that since the start of the Palestinian-Israeli war, China has been dedicated to promoting a ceasefire, protecting civilians, and alleviating the humanitarian crisis.
Wang expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with Arab-Islamic nations to steadfastly support the Palestinian cause for the just restoration of their lawful national rights.
In recent years, China has proposed initiatives for achieving security and stability in the Middle East, a political settlement for the Syrian issue, and a vision for the two-state solution to the Palestinian question. The spokesperson also highlighted China’s hosting of Saudi Arabia-Iran talks, aiming to encourage regional strength through unity and dispute resolution through dialogue.
Wang emphasized China’s continued commitment to working with the international community and urged the United States to heed the rising global call for a ceasefire. He referenced the UN General Assembly’s adoption of two resolutions and urged the U.S. to stop blocking Security Council resolutions, emphasizing the need to prevent a larger humanitarian catastrophe.
