Beijing: Once again, a rapid crackdown against mosques, targeting Uyghur Muslims, has been ongoing in Xinjiang and other regions in China.
According to international news agencies, Human Rights Watch has disclosed in its report that a swift crackdown against mosques, and against Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang and other regions, is taking place once again.
The report, issued in the context of the persecution of the Muslim community in Xinjiang, highlights the closure and demolition of mosques in violation of religious freedom. According to the report, more than five mosques in the northern regions of Ningxia and Gansu provinces have been closed, as there is a significant Muslim population in these areas.
In the name of aligning with Han Chinese culture, some mosques’ domes, minarets, and artworks are forcefully being transformed. Parts of the mosques are being demolished, after declaring them as encroachments.
