Jahania: International Workers’ Day will be celebrated globally, including in Pakistan, on Wednesday, May 1st. Various events are planned across Pakistan, including in Jahania, featuring speeches from labor leaders, federal ministers, and opposition leaders.
Special programs will be broadcast on radio and television about the International Day of Labor, and newspapers across the country will publish stories related to workers’ rights and history in special color editions.
The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on May 1st, 2024, to commemorate International Labour Day. According to an official notification released by the Chief Secretary of Sindh, all government offices, as well as autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils under the provincial government, will remain closed, excluding those involved in essential services.
While the Sindh government has made an early declaration, the federal government, along with other provinces including Punjab, has yet to officially confirm the holiday. However, a circular from the Cabinet Division already lists May 1st as a public holiday for this year.
It is important to note that International Labour Day is observed on May 1st globally in memory of the contributions and sacrifices of the laborers who fought fearlessly for their rights.
