Imran Khan Stays Behind Bars in Cipher Case Despite IHC’s Toshakhana Suspension

Islamabad: The release of Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, who was recently granted bail in the Toshakhana case, has hit a major roadblock. The obstacle to his release stems from the ongoing cipher case, as he remains under judicial remand until August 30 in this matter.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had suspended PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s three-year sentence in the Toshakhana case. However, a special court, established to handle matters under the Official Secrets Act, has instructed Attock Jail authorities, where Imran Khan is currently held, to keep him in “judicial lockup” and present him on August 30 in connection with the cipher case. This cipher case relates to a diplomatic document that was reportedly missing from Imran Khan’s possession and was said to contain a threat from the United States aimed at removing him from power.

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan was sent to jail on judicial remand by Islamabad’s Secret Act Court Judge. Special Court Judge Abu Al-Hasanat has issued an order for the Superintendent of Attock Jail to produce Chairman PTI  before the court on 30th August.

Despite the IHC’s suspension of the Toshakhana case and the order to release Imran Khan, the cipher case continues to impede Imran Khan’s release from jail.
