Lanka Premier League: Babar Azam categorically refuses to endorse Betting Firms

Karachi: The fourth edition of the Lanka Premier League will be played from 30th July to 22nd August, and will see Babar Azam playing as the Captain of the Colombo Strikers.

Several betting firms in the league slightly change their names for advertising purposes. Colombo Strikers have a contract with one of such companies, but Babar Azam has categorically refused to have the logo of the betting firm on his shirt.

Sources have revealed that the star batter has made it a clause of their contract as well, and the franchise has agreed to it. The Pakistan team will play two Test series in Sri Lanka the next month, followed by three One-Day International games against Afghanistan. Due to these commitments, Babar will not be fully available for the Lanka Premier League, and he will go to Sri Lanka only after fulfilling national duties.

It should be noted that during PSL 8, Mohammad Rizwan refused to wear the logo of the Surrogate advertising company on Multan Sultans’ shirt. He participated in the matches by covering the logo with a sticker. Many other players also expressed their displeasure. However, the franchise was eventually able to convince them to wear team shirts with the logo.

Babar and Rizwan have recently returned home after performing Hajj and will now participate in the national training camp in Karachi.
