LAHORE: A strong earthquake was felt jolted Islamabad, and most parts of Punjab province on Sunday afternoon, TheNewsTribe.com reported.
According to US geological survey, a 6.6 magnitude earthquake jolted Islamabad, Rawalpindi Muzaffarabad, Khyber Agency, Lahore Shangla Hill, Gujrat and other parts of the Punjab province.
The depth of the earthquake was 236 kilometer and its epicentre was Hindukush mountainous range in region in Afghanistan, RadioPakistan reported.
The tremors were felt for 10- 15 seconds.
The earthquake reportedly caused widespread panic across the region with people saying that it caused major alarm. Many of them took to social media to share the terrible development. Residents in several Pakistani cities in the country’s north said that they could feel the buildings that they were in sway.
The jolts were felt in New Delhi, Indian occupied Kashmir as well.
National Disaster Management Aurthority has issued a warning after the jolts, saying aftershocks could also hit the country after these tremors.
