Army Chief meets acting US NSA

WASHINGTON: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif met acting US national security advisor and discussed with him regional security, army spokesman said.

According to Lt. Gen. Asim Saleem Bajwa, Director General of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief had a detailed meeting with the action US NSA.

Issues relating counter-terrorism efforts and measures to choke terrorists financing were discussed in the meeting, the military spokesman wrote on his twitter account.

Gen. Sharif also visited Pakistani embassy where he addressed the Pakistani community.

He asserted, “Pakistan is absolutely determined to cope with the menaces posed by terrorism. Pakistan will not allow the sacrifices of our martyrs to go in vain; hence, the war against terrorism will be brought to its logical conclusion.”

Earlier, COAS met US Vice President Joe Biden at White House. US Vice President appreciated Pakistan’s contributions in war on terror.

General Raheel Sharif and US Vice President Joe Biden stressed early resumption of reconciliation process to achieve lasting peace in Afghanistan, so critical to peace and stability in region.

Acknowledging Pakistan’s crucial role for peace, Vice President recognized Pakistan’s immense sacrifices both in terms of human lives and economic losses.

COAS gave Pakistan’s perspective of security and stability in region, which he emphasized, needs to be understood.

According to DG ISPR’s tweets on social media, the COAS will also visit Brazil for three days and spend a day with Pakistani soldiers in Ivory Coast United Nations Mission.
