ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has reportedly rejected all steps going towards establishment of military-run special courts in the country, local media reported on Monday.
PTI opposed establishment of military courts in the country to try high-profile terrorists while supported ‘speedy trial courts’ led by civilian judges, Geo News reported.
According to report, PTI has clearly rejected for making any constitutional amendments to allow military courts.
Senior journalist Ansar Abbasi quoted PTI’s central leader and renowned lawyer Hamid Ali Khan said that a PTI leader told him for not going in support of military courts establishment via ‘tempering’ the Constitution of Pakistan.
The politician cum lawyer further said that PTI favoured establishment of ‘speedy trial courts’ led by High Courts judges under constitutional boundaries.
On the other hand, PTI’s central information secretary Shireen Mazari released clarification that the political party has not opposed military courts in the country.
