Pakistan lose five-match ODI series 3-2 against New Zealand

ABU DHABI: Pakistan lost five-match One Day International (ODI) series 3-2 against New Zealand after losing the decider fifth match by 68 runs played at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Friday (today).

Pakistan opening line-up wobbled again which put significant burden on the middle-order despite presence of experienced Younis Khan.

Ahmed Shehzad and Haris Sohail became top scorers for their team who scored 54 and 65 respectively. Shehzad was caught by Williamson on Henry ball while Sohail sent back to the pavilion by McClenaghan.

Green Shirts came under pressure after most early wicket of Nasir Jamshed who failed to keep his feet on the crease after playing only five balls of first over.

Wicket-keeper batsman Sarfraz Ahmed was third top score with only 26 runs but caught out by Henry. New Zealand took full advantage of fast bowler Henry who grabbed five wickets over just 30 runs and one maiden.

Stand-in skipper Shahid Afridi was last hope of Pakistan, who could be a game changer, but discharged to stay on crease by Henry again after scoring just 13 runs.

New Zealand had set reasonable target of 276 runs against Pakistan despite unsteady opening and defensive styled batting during the decider match of the ODI series..

Kiwis’ skipper KS Williamson became top scorer by adding 97 runs after playing 156 balls with 81.51% strike rate while LRPL Taylor’s not out 88 at 124 balls helped New Zealand to post 276 runs target.

Both Test and Twenty 20 series were drawn, and now ODI series came to the decider which will be played at Sheikh Zayed Cricket stadium, Abu Dhabi on Friday.

Pakistan have made two changes in the side as Asad Shafiq and Zulfiqar Babar in for Mohammad Hafeez and Sohail Tanvir while Nathen McCullum and Aunton Devicich are included in the New Zealand playing eleven.
