Queen Rania of Jordan calls on media fight against ISIS

Abu Dhabi: Queen Rania of Jordan said that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) ‘hijacked’ media resources using social media and she called on Arab media to resist against ‘irreligious extremists’.

Queen Rania was addressing opening speech at the Abu Dhabi Media Summit and urged for powerful media retaliation by the Arab world after exposing severe threats by ISIS expanding their influences across the World via social media including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

She said, “By using social media, a minority of irreligious extremists trying to rewrite our narrative and hijack our anatomy,”

She said, while projecting various images exhibiting violence and destruction, Queen Rania said the images were not reflecting the vast majority of Arabs, foreign media reported.

“These images don’t represent me anymore than they represent you. They’re alien and abhorrent to the vast majority of Arabs – Muslims and Christians. And they should make every Arab across this region seethe. Because they’re an attack on our values as a people and on our collective story.”

She further said that ISIS ideology for making such violent version of Arab world can only be defeated through a new narrative but not with bullets.
