Section 144 to be imposed at Sea View

KARACHI: Sindh government reportedly decided to impose Section 144 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) to ban people from venturing out to the sea side following the death of  23 people by drowning at Sea View beach, Karachi.


More than two dozen citizens were swept away by the rough waves at Clifton beach when they were swimming the scorching heat on Wednesday.

Following the incident, Sindh government has taken the decision to restrain people from going out to sea side by imposing Section 144 in a bid to avoid recurrence of such incidents.

Though, the government has not yet issued formal notification regarding invoking Sec 144, the police and other law enforcement agencies have started stopping people from going to seas side. Sources said that the notification would be issued within next two hours and LEAs personnel have already been asked to restrain people from going to the sea side.

Meanwhile, 20 bodies of those who drowned on Wednesday were fished out on Thursday by rescuers while search is on for recovering the remaining three bodies .

Deputy Commissioner South Mutafa Jamal Qazi said that 15 dead bodies were identified.
